The remains of what used to be the most significat Thracian city now lay 7 kilometers north of the town of Yambol.
Kabile was established at the end of the 2nd millenium BC as sanctuary of Artemida. Around 341 BC, the town was conquered by Philip of Macedonia, later being part of the empire of his heir Alexander The Great. Few decades later the Thracians managed to regain the town and developed it into the capital of their Kingdom, until falling under the rule of Rome. In the 6th c. Kabile was destroyed by the Avarian invasion and was never again fully restored.
