The gorge is located 3 km downstream from Tran (a small town near the western border of Bulgaria with Serbia). The Erma river springs from Serbia, then enters in Bulgaria making itТs way through the Gorge and goes back into Serbian territory.
Although not spectacular in size, the Erma River gorge is still an impressive scenery. It is 100 m long and just 5 m wide in the most narrow part. On both sides rise the cliff walls of peak Zhilav Kamak (The Tough rock) in south and Tsarkvishteto (The Chapel) in north. These 150 and 200 meters high cliffs are a popular challenge among rock climbers with over 10 blazed trails with varying in difficulty.
The beauty of the gorge can be best enjoyed from the specially build bridge over the river. The bridge is part of e hiking-path starting from Trun. The path is 13 kilometers long which makes it around 8 hour hike at normal pace. The village at the other end of the trail is Bankia Ц famous with its mineral springs.
