The Kordopulov’s House is the largest Renaissance house on the Balkans which has been preserved till present days. Ironically, the house is in the smallest town in Bulgaria - Melnik. It was originally build to serve as wine–cellar and owned by a rather successful local vintner – Manol Kordopulov. The vintage was stored in an underground tunnel (150 m long) on shelves carved into the stone. The cellar is still in use and occasionally wine testing is organized. The first two floors of the house are constructed of stone. The house is also interesting with its interior decoration – Venetian frescoes, wood-carvings, stained glass carrying the Renaissance spirit. Since the house is situated at the highest point of this mountain village, the view is simply enchanting.
