Melnik Pyramids

The Melnik Pyramids (Melnishki piramidi) are located on the southwestern approaches of Pirin Planina, in close proximity to Melnik (the smallest, but one of the most beautiful old towns in Bulgaria). These are stone and earth formations naturally shaped through time as a result of the united erosive effect of the wind, rain and nearby running waters. The formations are sculpted in spectacular shapes resembling pyramids, swards, mushrooms or needles and reaching up to 100 m. height. On the top of these pyramids you'll see growing different type of deciduous trees and grass, which adds to the beauty of this picturesque phenomenon.
