Bacho Kiro is one of the mostly visited caves in Bulgaria, partly because it’s just several hundred meters from one of the most popular sacred places in the country – the Dryanovo monastery. The chambers and passages caved in the limestone cliff construct a four-storeyed maze with total length 3600 m. Both the cave and monastery were used as safe-house by Bulgarian rebels during the Ottoman oppression. In fact, the cave had been used as shelter long before that, which was proved by the recovery of prehistoric human artifacts dating from the Mid and Late Paleolith.
Those having an eye for Nature’s beauty will be pleased to see the unique forms sculpted in the limestone by the water and air-drafts throughout the ages – the Jellyfish, the Bear Slide, the Cathedral, the Waterfall, the Concert Hall, the Rainy Hall, the Throne Hall.
