The cave is located in Northern Bulgaria at 520 m elevation, the nearest town Teteven being 25 km away. Total length of its galleries is 400 m. The cave is named after 2 brothers who rebelled against the Ottoman repressors and used it as a hiding place. Remains of human skeletons, some pottery and one Roman coin with the image of emperor Antoninus reveal that it’s been used as shelter long before that.
Saeva Dupka has 5 chambers, named as follows:
a) Kupena (The Bundle)– an immense stalactite rising in the middle resembles a bundle of hay, hence the name;
b) Srutishteto (The Collapse) - this chamber was created by an earthquake and the ground is covered with broken-off chunks of rock up to 3.2 m high;
c) Harman;
d) Cosmos– the name comes from the rocket-like karst forms;
e) Beliyat zamak (The White Castle).
